In Forgotten Isle, Portland-based artist Wesley Younie invites viewers into a lush, imagined world where beauty and unease coexist. Drawing on influences ranging from Chinoiserie and fairy tales to natural history and popular media, Younie’s nature-based paintings explore the blurred boundaries between the organic and the artificial, the ancient and the modern.

Through meticulously layered compositions of flora, fauna, and fantastical architecture, Younie reflects on the tensions of contemporary life, where reverence for nature collides with overdevelopment and digital escapism. His work bridges fine art and landscape design, revealing both the fragility and resilience of the natural world in an age increasingly defined by artifice.

Wesley Younie was born in Portland in 1983 and studied at the California College of the Arts, the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and Portland State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Painting. His work is represented in numerous public and private collections, including The Nines Hotel, Mirabella Portland, Randall Children’s Hospital, and Modera Pearl. When he is not painting, Younie can often be found in the garden, an extension of the same curiosity and care that animate his art.
